A message from Theology Department Chair Fr. Brian Taber, S.J.

Fides quaerens intellectum - "faith seeking understanding. This motto of Saint Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109), bishop and Doctor of the Church, expresses the goal of theology. All first-year students receive instruction in the basic doctrine and tenets of the Catholic faith. Once this foundation has been laid, sophomores are invited to study the history of salvation revealed in Scripture and culminating in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Juniors build upon their knowledge of Scripture and Tradition through a year-long morality course that exposes them to the history of ideas in tandem with lessons on how the Church responds to social issues. Seniors analyze how the other world religions approach the great questions of meaning and choose among elective options that apply the Catholic approach to science, the arts, social teaching, and the great religious charisms that animate the Church.

Bio

Ms. Christine Mayeaux joined the 正规赌博十大平台排行 Theology Department in what she describes as a "serendipitous" turn of events.

"I was interested in a teaching job in Washington, D.C.," she says. "I asked a friend who worked at Ignatius to look at my resume. He did and said, 'We have a job opening here. You should apply.'"

That fortunate twist of events brought Ms. Mayeaux to 1076 West Roosevelt Road, much to the benefit of the 正规赌博十大平台排行. Chicago is certainly a change of pace from Florida, but she loves the work here.

"The students are the high point," says Ms. Mayeaux. "They are engaged, interested and they want to understand things on a deeper level."

That desire for depth is precisely what drew her to theology in the first place. "I've always had a passion for theology. Studying it was an opportunity to put more thought and education behind my Faith," she says.

When she's not teaching Intro to Catholicism and Intro to Scripture, Ms. Mayeaux moderates the 正规赌博十大平台排行's Respect Life Club and actively contributes to discussions with the Philosophy Club. She is also an assistant cross-country coach. "It's fun to see the students be themselves more, outside of the academics," she says, "To see them really commit to their passions!"
